| TEN MILE RIVER, 1/ 17 - 20/2002 |

| TMR, 1/ 17-20 /2003 Our annual cold weather trip to Ten Mile River Scout Camp. This year's temperature range varied from -1 degree on arrival late Friday night to mid 20's on departure (if you were in the sun). We stayed at the Suanhacky Lodge House located in the village. It's newly renovated with heat, electricity, stove, and refrigerator. However, no water within the cabin. We had to travel to the maintenance shed for fill ups (rangers working on closer water source). Another novelty this year, we were able to take advantage of the three-day weekend for our winter camping trip. Lots of snow fun this year- Crystal Lake was frozen so the scouts and ice fishermen took advantage of it. The boys sledding down onto it from the Tower of Friendship, the fisherman setting up elaborate fishing stations. We brought along with us some cross country skis (relics but usable) for the scouts to experience. Many tried and did quite well considering the gear was adult sized. Plenty of sledding off the shore of Crystal Lake and Camp Kunatah. The older boys also tried their hand at snowboarding on the steeper roads of Kunatah. Thirteen scouts and three adults participated. |
