| Long Trip, 8/27 - 9/01, 2002 Destinations: Hershey (Amusement Park), Ohiopyle (Whitewater Rafting), Farmington (Laurel Caverns) |
| 8/19, After talking about long trips for the whole summer, the qualified scouts meet for the first time |
At the meeting they reaffirm the eligibility qualifications, set a minimum
attendance level for the trip to take place, discuss the length of the trip, set
an estimated budget that most could afford and discuss potential activities.
They decide to replicate the 1999 long trip, 5 days through Pennsylvania.
The itinerary was quickly agreed to with stops at Hershey Amusement Park,
Ohiopyle for the whitewater activity and Farmington for the raw cave
exploring. The five attending scouts quickly took on tasks that needed to be
accomplished immediately, (menus, food list, personal equipment
checklist, troop equipment checklist and a routing plan.

The trip is set for 6 days, 8/27-9/01. Departure is set for 0730 on Tuesday, a major travel day with a 4 hour stop at Hershey
Amusement Park in the evening. Wednesday?s plan is to travel to Ohiopyle, set up our 3 night campsite and confirm all the
arrangements for the whitewater activities (now planned for 2 days). Thursday and Friday is for running the Youghiogheny River. The
plan is to be challenged by The Lower's Class III and IV waters. Saturday morning we plan on exploring the raw beauty of Laurel
Caverns. Saturday afternoon we will be on our way to Kutztown from where we will drive home on Sunday.

leaders and seven qualified scouts are looking forward to the adventure of the year

| Tuesday 8/27 07:48 departure. smooth 32 min to NJ via Holland Tunnel, incredible! Arrive Hershey's Highmeadow Campground at 11:20. Quickly set up camp and have lunch. Car trouble, radiator. Shuttle over to Amusement Park at 15:30 |
